About Me

Hi,

My name is Phil Steik, as most baby boomers, I have lead a full life with a lot of ups and downs. As my retirement approaches, I have decided to start writing and see if anyone is interested in reading what I have to say.

In my 60+ years of living I have had many experiences I think/hope you will find interesting. I plan to put those out there. I would like to hear your comments. I also plan to throw in some of my opinions. I doubt that everyone reading will agree with me. Great! That will lead to discussions. My father told me that if you put two adults in one room you will end up with more than one opinion. I look forward to hearing yours, and I hope that you will let me have it rather than blocking me.

I spoke of my experiences. I have worked many jobs, starting with a paper route in 6th grade, then a busboy in high school. I also worked as an usher in a large (for the time) cineplex, pumped gas and moved up to learning how to work on cars graduating from oil changes to brake jobs, tune-ups and more involved mechanical repairs.

I stayed at the gas station as a summer job while I worked my way through college. While I was attending college I also worked as a doorman at a combination disco-rock and roll bar in Carbondale, IL. After college I interviewed at some of the largest advertising firms in the country and while I was in that process I got the opportunity to buy the mechanical repair business portion of the gas station I had worked at. I bought it and ran that until the large conglomerate I was leasing space from decided to “repurpose” that location and make it a car wash. I proposed to my girl the night I learned that I lost the lease saying, “You told me you would love me if I was rich or poor, well I’m going to be poor real soon, do you want to marry me?” Despite the awkward proposal she said yes and we raised a large family. I went on to work as a jail guard and then a police officer. That’s not all of my jobs- but it’s quite a variety isn’t it?

I ran cross-country for a year in high school for a man recognized as one of the greatest coaches in the state, I also wrestled and tried out for the baseball team 3 times before I finally got the message my services were not required. I was on the boxing club in college and I bowled, played softball and flag football on organized leagues until my ex-wife suggested, then demanded, I spend that time at home.

I’m a religious man and I attribute my faith in God to why I am happy almost all of the time.

I ask you to try me out. If you’re not happy with one topic don’t read it, but please come back and try another because, as you can see, it will be different.

  1. Amazing! Here I thought you were this person I’ve known most of my life (and all of yours!), yet I must admit, I just learned so much about you!! Looking forward to learning more about your thoughts through your blogs.

    1. I hope you liked it. Tell friends and family you think might enjoy going back to those thrilling days of yesteryear (Stolen from The Lone Ranger) about it.

  2. Hello, aboomersthoughts.com
I just came across your website and I fell in love with your amazing brand! Well done!
My name is Zlatina Jekova and I am a popular blogger & social media expert based in Miami. I noticed that your brand has the potential to attract much more engagement and new customers through the social media platforms than it currently does (in terms of likes, comments, followers, reach and new leads).
Thanks to the effective social media strategy I have developed over the years, I have helped more than 150 brands to increase their sales, followers and brand awareness. I would love to manage your social media accounts and grow your presence on the platforms, in case you are interested.
The packages I currently offer are:
    1) Instagram account management (25 posts; 25 stories) – $600 per month.
    2) Management of 3 social media accounts (Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok or Twitter – 25 posts on each account) – $950 per month.
If you are interested in learning more about the service, please email me at laelegantiacollab@hotmail.com and I will send you my media kit, where you can find a ‘before’ and ‘after’ of accounts I manage and the results you can expect from the service.
    Best wishes,
    Zlatina

  3. With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright infringement?

My site has a lot of unique content I’ve either created myself or outsourced
but it appears a lot of it is popping it up
all over the web without my agreement. Do you know any methods to
help prevent content from being stolen? I’d genuinely appreciate it.

  4. Spot on with this write-up, I actually believe this website
needs a lot more attention. I’ll probably be back again to read more,
    thanks for the info!

  5. Phil,

I enjoy what I’ve read so far and look forward to more.

    Take care, pal.

    Kevin

  6. I am curious to find out what blog system
you have been working with? I’m having some minor
security issues with my latest site and I would like
to find something more risk-free. Do you have any solutions?

  7. My family members always say that I am killing my time here at web, but
I know I am getting knowledge every day by reading
    such fastidious posts.

  8. Useful info. Fortunate me I found your website accidentally, and I’m surprised
why this twist of fate did not happened earlier!
    I bookmarked it.
