STORY TIME 2 of 3

(Continued)

The Rich Man held a gigantic inaugural celebration. He said it was the grandest ever held and it was true. Citizens and guests of great nobility and common status came to meet as one in the momentous event! But the Party and their friends the media denied the truth, they minimized the event. Several members of the Party were in such a state of despair that they refused to attend. One Party member was so distraught she cried out loud, let the impeachment begin! And it did.

The Party started the impeachment enterprise the day the Rich Man took office and continued it for many years. The Party launched a campaign of half truths and unprovable statements based on the false documents they had obtained during the election campaign and also after the people had voted. This was with full knowledge that investigators were stating that the documents the Party produced were based on hearsay and blatant falsehoods.

News surfaced that the bulk of that information came from a discredited spy who hated the Rich Man, this information was suppressed and the impeachment talk continued and grew into a movement produced and made fertile by the Party. The Party hid their treachery by claiming they wanted to help the kingdom prosper, and by “leaking” untruths and innuendo’s designed to embarrass and weaken the Rich Man. The media friends of the Party promoted it in every way they could. The media was shown to have sent out news that negatively portrayed the new leader in fables designed to weaken the chosen leader of the people. The propaganda discrediting the Rich Man numbered eight for every two items that honestly described the elected leader’s great accomplishments. He kept many of the promises he had made to the people despite the fact that the Rich Man was forced to fight the Party for every inch he gained. He added to boarder fortifications, nominated many competent judges, made treaties with neighbors and assisted with treaties between warring tribes across the world in addition to other accomplishments. These were promises he had made to the people when he was seeking their vote.

The high ranking Party members agreed among themselves to prioritize talk of impeachment and tried to initiate cases for many minor and imagined transgressions. The false statements they had acquired during the election were used, businesses and business dealings that he had been involved in while building his empire were scrutinized by many from the Party attempting to discredit the Rich Man. The Party challenged him to produce records of his filings with the tax collector. The Rich Man responded, each time, that the tax collector was dealing in the courts with this information and releasing it was forbidden. The media and Party members asked again, and again even though the question had been answered.

The Party cleverly combined slivers of truth with blatant lies and either “leaked” the information they hoped would cause an uprising or disguised their treasonous plans with phrases such as, “I wish we weren’t forced t do this” only days after confirming that their plan was to initiate the impeachment they had been working towards for three years. The friends of the Party in the media gave them cover and stressed the need to remove the Rich Man for any number of trumped up charges. Honesty and integrity became a thing of ancient history, not applicable in current affairs of the kingdom.

A method that had allowed the masses, rich and poor, to communicate within the kingdom and from one kingdom to another had been perfected. For many a year this communication system was used freely to express almost any kind of thought, unfiltered. The Party continued it’s deceit. Although it claimed to be a party of “The peasants” and used this claim to win the votes of minorities and under represented citizens for many generations the Party, in fact, had done many things to hurt the lower income citizens. The Party leaders were well aware that if the masses were suffering and in need, they would vote for the Party to help them, even though it seldom did.

The Rich Man had won the election and was able to stay in favor with the people, in part, because of this communication system that allowed him to speak directly to the masses. Prior to the communication system the media friends of the Party were the only source of information available to the people and they helped the Party in many ways. The media was still the main source of information, but now the Rich Man was able to take advantage of the new process to make the truth available to those who sought it. Now, it happened, that the Party, who claimed to be made up of common people and dedicated to help common people actually had very strong ties to many of the most financially powerful people in the world. Among these people were the owners of the once unfiltered communication outlets. These financially powerful people started to censor the Rich Man’s message. Others in the Party cried out that they wanted the Rich Man silenced completely, they lamented he should be blocked from the only way he had to reach the people with his message. The once unfiltered communication system then started to block the Rich Man’s postings.

The Rich Man had been victimized by attacks from the Party for his whole first term, this was unprecedented in the first country to have a government based on the belief that leaders were subordinate to the people. A new election was coming up. The Rich Man chose to run for a second term. The Party determined early on to stop him. Many of the people of the Party battled to win the opportunity to do combat with the Rich Man for the right to lead the people. Many of those who battled to lead the Party supported a view far different than the Rich Man’s. They wanted the government to have more control over businesses, the environment and a women’s “right” to abort her unborn child.

The man who came out on top for the Party had been a very influential member of the Party for forty and seven years. He was elected as first person below the leader of the country in the administration prior to the Rich Man’s. The top man on that ballot was of a minority race and great opportunities for the county were on the horizon.

That leadership team disappointed many of the subjects during their reign. The leader apologized often, publicly, to other countries for his kingdom’s greatness. It was called “leading from behind.” The man chosen to now vie for the leadership with the Rich Man, while he held the second highest rank of his kingdom, bragged of having a foreign country’s investigator fired. He said he threatened to withhold a large sum of money promised by the leader that he was to deliver. In a conference that all the kingdom’s subjects were able to see, if they so desired, he said he ordered them to fire the man, and they protested, but did fire him to get the previously promised fortune.

This action was contrary to the rules of the kingdom and this exact deed was what the Rich Man was impeached (Ordered to stand trial to determine if he could remain in office). The Rich Man was found innocent of the charges by the senate (The impeachment court) due to lack of evidence. While there was no evidence against the Rich Man, there was abundant evidence against the Parties candidate but no impeachment move was made, largely because the media protected the Party candidate.

The campaign nears its’ end. Some say the election will be a contest between staying free and losing freedoms- Stay tuned for Part III.

How did you like this?

Don’t worry, I will continue that other format also- just seeing if the old adage “Variety is the Spice of Life” is true.
