ARE WE CENSORED?

Are we censored? As Americans our knee-jerk reaction is a quick NO! followed by an eye roll and some whispers under our breath.

Maybe the answer depends on how you define “censored”?

Webster defines Censor as-Subject to censorship. That didn’t really clarify it for me, maybe I’m just slow on the uptake.

Webster defines Censorship as- Stopping the transmission or publication of matter considered objectionable.

Looking at that definition maybe we are. In fact, I’m pretty sure we are.

Are you aware that The New York Post was suspended from Twitter for posting an article that was truthful about, but not complimentary to, Hunter Biden? The story used information legally taken from Hunter’s laptop, but Twitter gave the excuse that they have a policy against allowing “hacked” material in their posts. An argument against this claim is that they did post the NY Times article about president Trump’s tax returns which were obtained without his consent.

Are you aware of the Hunter Biden scandal? I ask because it has all of the intrigue, deception, criminality and foreign conspiracy that is required to make headlines in all of the major news sources for months. This story has only one problem, the villain has a D after his name instead of an R.

In short, as I understand it, Hunter Biden’s computer was dropped off at a repair shop and then left there after the scheduled time for pick up. The owner of the repair shop made the required attempts to contact the number he was given when the computer was dropped. He was not successful. The owner then took legal possession of the computer and found a lot of incriminating emails and videos. He went to the police, the FBI and finally gave copies of the information to Rudy Giuliani after the authorities failed to act. The story broke in mid October of 2020. I think I might have misspoke- I should have said the story came to the attention of the press at that time but was suppressed until after the election. Even though there are “real facts” unlike the scandals against President Trump this story is not getting much air time. I’ll call this a self imposed Mass Media Censorship.

From the very beginning of the Covid 19 Crisis numerous doctors have come forward with claims that they have successfully treated Covid 19 patients with Hydroxy Chloroquine these doctors were hushed, threatened with loss of employment and their stories were not widely disseminated. They were given a voice on some conservative radio shows where they recited their impressive credentials and summarized their successes.

We are a great country because of our freedom to voice our views and openly debate them; when did that end? What would the downside to allowing doctors to voice their dissenting opinion be? In our country, so far, nobody is forced to take medications against their will. I wanted to hear more about a possible cure, and couldn’t. Censorship? Sounds like it to me.

While I’m on the subject of the Covid 19 situation I have a couple more concerns I would like to bring up. Have you noticed that we get daily counts of Covid deaths and new cases without any comparison numbers. I think that is not only bad reporting, it’s misleading. While I am sitting at my computer I have heard three news briefs. In each one I have heard that The U. S. has passed 300,000 Covid related deaths. How does that compare to a severe flu outbreak? If every day I gave you the number of violent deaths in a major city without giving you any number to compare it to you would probably want to fire the police chief, especially if I commented about how scary this particular number was. We need comparisons to make decisions. We need the full story to make a decision. We are not getting it.

In reaction to the Covid situation governors are implementing lockdowns to varying degrees, mandatory wearing of masks, closing businesses, limiting services and other steps. Some doctors and other scholars are saying many of the steps being taken are not necessary. A group of doctors filmed a video and put it out on social media- Where it was quickly taken down (Did you see it?). In the video they dispute many “known” facts the media has been sharing. One of which is the mandated wearing of masks. These doctors declared that the Covid 19 virus is 1/1,000 the size of a human hair and the mask has no effect on such a small virus. I would like to have easy access to that information, wouldn’t you. If only we had a free media!

Early on I noticed, and wrote about, how the CDC was listing gunshot, accidental deaths, and hospice patients (For other diseases) as Covid deaths as long as they tested positive. Ninety four per cent of the Covid deaths listed have co-morbidities. We are not hearing this in our daily updates. If this is a Pandemic that could kill millions, why do they need to bring gunshot victims into the count? Why isn’t the 4th Estate (The Press and Media) up in arms about it, instead of being quietly complicit? Censorship does not have to be accomplished with guns and laws; I believe it is currently being done with money and hatred of those who don’t share the belief’s of the media.

Is it possible that the press believes we are stupid? Do they believe we are not capable of making our own decisions? I’ll paraphrase what Col. Jessep (Jack Nicholson) says in “A FEW GOOD MEN”- maybe they are convinced “WE CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH”- I would like a chance to.

Is political correctness an excuse for censorship?

Prayer has been removed from schools for fear of offending someone. Some homeowner associations forbid U.S. flags because they might offend someone. During the last administration we were discouraged from saying Merry Christmas, because it might offend someone.

Here are a few “common senseisms.” To be good citizens we must be well informed. To be well informed we must have access to the truth. To have access to the truth we must have news sources that give us the whole story. If we do not have access to the truth we can not fully participate in our rolls as citizens.

In my opinion a news media that withholds a blockbuster story before an election is participating in censorship. A news media that continues to tell only one side of the story on Covid is participating in censorship. A news media that not only does not share important information on the government reaction to a pandemic, but participates in blocking contrary views is participating in censorship.

I don’t know all of the answers, none of us do. But I do know that it is a lot harder to have the answers when they are withheld from you.
