GRANDPA DUTIES

Included in grandpa duties is watching your grandpuppies and kitties when asked.

I am the proud grandad of 5 puppies and one cat. As with many stories of paternity in our modern culture this is a little complicated. All five grandpuppies entered our family through means other than being born of one of my puppies. Scandalous, I know, but I speak the truth and will continue to do so regardless of how it might effect my reputation.

I do have one puppy, Ace a very large black Lab (over 120 pounds), brought into our family as a puppy about 13 years ago. Ace lives at home with me and assorted kids and grandkids. We also have one grandpuppy living with us, Centry who is a very well fed mixed breed dog. Centry joined the family when P.J. moved back in to save money for a house and to consider his very tempting prospect of moving out of the highly taxed, political mess many people know as Illinois.

Centry and Ace get along great and team together to alert the household when any stranger, or resident walks on the public sidewalk in front of the house or any closer. 

My oldest child, Jaime, has given me Macy and Daisy. PJ has Centry, Bridget has a new puppy Rosie and Erin has a new puppy Brodie and a cat named Sammy.

 

 

Sammy is confusing because he was a family cat. Erin took him with her when she left so, in my opinion, he stopped being my cat and became a grandkitty.

I hope I’m not confusing you.

This blog is to tell you about the last three days I spent at Bridget’s house watching her new puppy Rosie while she and her family spent a long weekend out of state.

The task went without a hitch for the first several hours then everything changed. 

Rosie, a cute chocolate labradoodle, was sitting on their new couch with me. I was sure she smiled at me right before she marked the couch as her very own in the same way dogs have shown their ownership since time began- by peeing on it.

I jumped up, brought Rosie into the yard to finish peeing if she needed to. She was on a leash to stop her from eating the fence or wood chips which she is prone to do.

I thought to myself what could make this moment worse and God answered me immediately with a downpour of rain.

I brought Rosie back in the house, dried us both off and put her in her crate so I could “unmark” the couch in peace.

Over the three days it continued to rain and I continued to look for breaks in the weather to bring her out to the yard. Overall she was very good but, on two occasions, she did race back in the house after feeling a rain drop and leave me a surprise on the beautiful hardwood floors that required pet deodorizer . These presents were of the number 2 variety as opposed to the number one sample she had left earlier.

I am a proud puppy grandpappy and would be glad to watch any of my grandpuppy/kitty’s any time, but I was also glad to get back to my own house where the dogs can “go” unattended and my own shower, bed and beer are waiting for me.
