I am still concerned about the quarantine and the country creeping back to something resembling normal so I did a web search and found these numbers on Worldometer. I’m hoping you might find them interesting.
The age range for fatalities is: AGE Deaths Percentage 0-17 9 0.06. 18-44 801 3.9 45-64 3,413 22.4 65-74 3,788 24.9 75 + 7,419 48.7
I did the math and that comes out to 99.96 (I have no idea what happened to the other .04%, but it’s pretty close to 100%)
Ninety-nine of the deaths listed were said to be “solely Covid.” Three thousand seven hundred and thirty two are listed as “unknown if underlying conditions.” The rest were with underlying conditions. So the true numbers are saying that our “Covid Pandemic” is not the terror that was predicted.
I feel it is interesting to note that almost half of the deaths were victims over 75 years of age, and if you go down to the 45 year olds you have accounted for 96% of the deaths. I am definitely not suggesting this age range (45 and older) can be written off, I belong to that age range. I am saying it’s interesting though.
I am also concerned that many politicians are calling for renewed quarantine and other drastic measures to stop the return of the virus.
The Washington Post notes that there were 38,115 new cases reported Wednesday (I’m guessing 08/05, I read the article 0n Tuesday the 11th) surpassing the previous daily high of 34,203 set 04/25/20. Later in the same article they tell us that the numbers in the Maryland/Virginia area are beginning to plateau.
My position is still that I am against the restrictions that are being placed on all of our freedoms by the government. I am more upset that the public is not outraged by this development. The predicted numbers were a reason for great concern. The actual numbers, not so much.
Many governors, mine included, are considering returning to the more restrictive measures because infections are rising, in many states there is not an equivalent rise in the numbers of fatalities. I am as concerned about death as anyone. I am more concerned about loss of established freedoms. Benjamin Franklin said, “Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
I point to many of the facts I have been leaning on in past blogs: The pandemic numbers have not equaled the numbers of severe flu outbreaks of the past. The disease is not striking all age groups, well over 95% of the victims are over 45 years old and most of the deaths had underlying health issues. A large percentage of the deaths are not from Covid 19 alone. Some of the deaths counted were gunshot victims and subjects in hospice for other issues. Many people are losing businesses. Workers are losing jobs. Documented cases of suicides and depression are well above those of last year. The nationwide quarantine is unprecedented and a colossal overreach. Reputable doctors, in great numbers, whose views differ from the accepted are being censored and ostracized even, in many cases, fired.
I submit that we have become a “What if” society where we were once a “Can do” society.
Our lives and actions are now controlled by an underlying fear of what if the worst happens? That attitude seems to control the actions of people elected to be our leaders. What if I open the state and there are more deaths? I better keep it closed. What if people riot because I don’t do what they want?
I want to stand in line behind a true leader who says, “We can do this. We can beat this disease. We can open up our country again. I hope that happens before we lose more than we can come back from.
What do you think?
I hope to hear your comments on this.
Thanks
Phil
